Position Description:
Field assistant needed for a study of genetic, morphological, and
ecological transitions in a brown lemur hybrid zone (Eulemur fulvus
rufus x E. albocollaris). Study will be conducted on the eastern
slopes of the Andringitra Massif, in southeastern Madagascar. Field
assistant will be responsible for assisting in the collection of basic
morphological variables, pelage characteristics and fecal samples.
They will also be responsible for setting up botanical plots and
helping with collection of ecological variables. Total time commitment
required for project is 4 months, between the months of May and August
2008.

Qualifications/Experience:
Applicants should have a degree in Primatology, Biology, Ecology or a
related field. Prior experience working in the field is desirable but
not necessary. Andringitra is one of the most beautiful and diverse
regions of Madagascar but also has a very hilly topography which will
require that applicant is in good physical condition.

Salary/funding:
None

Support provided for internship/volunteer positions (travel, meals,
lodging):
Assistant can expect to pay:
- Round-trip airfare to Madagascar (price varies)
- Malagasy visa ($80)
- Meals ($2/day)
- Personal field clothes and camping equipment.

May 2008 - Augsut 2008
