Three Assistant Professor Positions
The Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences at Louisiana State University seeks applications for three full-time, tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant Professor level:
1-Biological Oceanographer with expertise in one or more of the following areas: phytoplankton ecology, microbial ecology, coastal and estuarine primary productivity, noxious and toxic algal species, or microbial processes.
2-Coastal Marine Geologist with expertise in the general areas of shelf, coastal, estuarine, and fluvial processes. Experience with the use of radionuclides in sedimentological problem-solving is beneficial.
3-Physical Oceanographer with expertise in the general area of continental shelf or larger scale ocean circulation and demonstrated research interests (observational and/or modeling) in one or more of the following areas: circulation and transport processes, mixing processes, ocean/atmosphere interactions, gravity wave dynamics (including internal waves), and climate change.
Required qualifications for all three positions include a Ph.D. in oceanography, or a closely related field, and the ability to work at the interface between marine biology, marine geology, and quantitative physical oceanography.
We seek candidates with a demonstrated potential for research and teaching that will complement and integrate with the existing strengths and missions of the Department of Oceanography and Coastal Sciences. This position carries nine-months of hard money support and is contingent on availability of funds.
We anticipate filling the positions at the Assistant Professor level starting in August 2006. However, outstanding applicants of any rank will be considered. The successful candidates will be expected to develop a vigorous, externally funded research program, collaborate in multidisciplinary projects, mentor graduate students, and teach courses in an appropriate sub-discipline of oceanography (graduate and undergraduate). The selection process will begin February 1, 2006, but each position will remain open until a candidate is selected.
