 > The UK government is simultaneously identifying a network of
 > internationally important protected sites for seabirds and enabling
 > development of renewable energy that will make a significant
 > contribution to the UK?s commitments to address climate change. Thi
 > s post will provide advice on renewable energy projects to help prot
 > ect the UK?s internationally important bird populations.

 > The purpose of this post is to provide JNCC with specialist policy,
 > guidance and scientific advice on ornithology arising from
 > development proposals in the marine environment. The particular
 > focus of the work will relate to offshore wind farm proposals.
 >
 > Working closely with JNCC?s seabird specialists and offshore industr
 > y advisors the post holder will help resolve challenging marine mana
 > gement issues. He/she will inform the development of new research a
 > nd survey methods being developed to address these issues. The post
 >  holder will be responsible for provision of scientific advice, upda
 > ting guidance and informing policy development. He/she will liaise
 > closely with recognised experts across industry, academia, the statu
 > tory agencies and other relevant bodies.

 > Post Duties
 >
 > The postholder will carry out the projects and functions listed
 > below, with the overall objective of meeting the advisory
 > requirements of government and the offshore industry efficiently.
 > Many of the following functions will require co-ordination with
 > colleagues in the statutory agencies and involve working in close
 > collaboration with other Marine staff in JNCC.
 >
 > Provide up-to-date, evidence-based and accessible ornithological
 > advice for the offshore renewable industry, regulators, other
 > external partners and relevant JNCC staff.
 > Contribute towards the development of methods, guidance and policy
 > on assessing the impacts of wind farms on seabirds.
 > Develop good working relationships with key partners. This will
 > particularly include developers and their consultants, staff from
 > statutory agencies, Crown Estate, consenting authorities and non-
 > governmental organisations (such as RSPB and BTO).
 > Keep up to date with relevant policy issues and legislation (e.g.
 > offshore Special Protection Areas, application of Offshore Marine
 > Conservation Regulations as well as marine spatial planning and
 > Marine Bill) and apply to casework.
 > The post holder will be expected to provide specialist input to
 > support other JNCC areas of work as required, e.g. developing
 > conservation objectives for offshore SPAs.
