PhD at Imperial College London

A fully-funded PhD studentship is available to study the ecology of lichens, mosses and liverworts and their responses to deer management on the magnificent Letterewe Estate by Loch Maree in Wester Ross, Scotland. Funds are available to cover University fees plus living expenses, and there is free accommodation when in Scotland. The study will involve roughly 6 months per year field work in the Highlands, plus roughly six months per year at Silwood Park, Ascot, Berkshire, where the Biology Campus of Imperial College London is located. Applicants should enjoy doing field work in all weathers, and need to be willing to walk over rough terrain and to scale 1000m peaks in search of biodiversity. Training in identification of species will be available if required, but an existing interest in lower plants would be an advantage. Applicants should possess a first or an upper second class degree, or a Masters degree in a science subject.
