Title: Field Manager - Mangrove Finch Project (Galapagos)

Opportunity Description:
A three year contract position, which may be
renewable depending on further funding.
The Mangrove Finch Project is a collaborative
project between the Durrell Wildlife Conservation
Trust, Charles Darwin Foundation and
Galapagos National Park to conserve the rarest
bird in the archipelago and is funded through a
grant from the Darwin initiative.
Major duties/responsibilities will include:
1) Management of the conservation project of the
Mangrove Finch with support from the Project
Manager.
2) Develop a scientifically rigorous research
programme to investigate the population ecology
of the Mangrove Finch, with support from project
scientific advisors.
3) Design and implement robust data collection
protocols
4) Carry out field data collection.
5) Oversee captive - breeding programme.
6) Oversee programme for control and
eradication of invasive species.
7) Reporting of project results to include financial
accounting
8) Production of reports, articles, manuscripts
web material etc
9) Management and analysis of project data, with
support from project advisors
Supervisory Responsibilities:
1) Field & Aviary staff & students
Minimum requirements:
Knowledge - A PhD, or a minimum of 5 years
relevant experience in animal ecology, preferably
avian population biology.
Language - must be fluent in Spanish & English
and able to produce reports in both languages.
Experience - A minimum of two years work
experience in wildlife management or
conservation.
Field Skills - mist netting, ringing birds.
Data Management - use of databases and GIS
