Assistant Professor in Avian Biology
The Department of Biology at Boise State University invites applications for a tenure-track ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position in Avian Biology. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program that involves Raptor Biology graduate students. Individuals engaged in research in the areas of (1) physiological ecology, (2) conservation biology, or (3) the ecology of wildlife diseases are especially encouraged to apply, although strong candidates with other research interests will be considered. A research program that complements those of faculty members(http://www.boisestate.edu/biology/faculty.htm) in the department is desirable. A PhD, and postdoctoral or equivalent experience is required.
Boise State University is home to the Raptor Research Center, which is a collaborative arrangement among Boise State University, the U.S. Bureau of Land Management, and the U.S. Geological Survey that supports the Raptor Biology Master's Program and engages in research of regional, national and international scope. Southwestern Idaho is home to the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area, which contains one of the largest concentrations of breeding raptors in the United States. Boise also is convenient to the Idaho Bird Observatory, which annually captures and processes hundreds of migrating raptors. The World Center for Birds of Prey, operated by the Peregrine Fund, Inc. is nearby.
BoiseState Universityhas a strong history of providing quality education and research opportunities for its undergraduate and graduate students. In keeping with this tradition, the successful candidate will have interest in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and in directing research projects of biology undergraduates and master's-level Raptor Biology graduate students. A graduate course of interest to Raptor Biology students will be required, and interest in teaching undergraduate Human Anatomy and Physiology would be a plus.
